Spread Bloggy Love |{Day 18-LizSquared}

Co-blogging is hard, but it’s also a rewarding way to build a diverse, exciting blog. Having a Partner in
Blog (PiB) means having someone to inspire creativity. Someone to fall back on when you just can’t
come up with something to write about. Someone who is invested in your mission and your vision. But,
if you don’t have the right person by your side, things can fall apart quickly.

When my Partner in Blog (PiB) at LizSquared and I dove into our co-blogging
adventure, we did so with abandon. Inspired by co-bloggers like the unimaginably fabulous Fug Girls
and fueled by the kick ass work being done at Band Back Together, we formed our little blog. Thus far, it’s been pretty smooth sailing, er, blogging. Our friendly tradition of writing letters (to each other, to inanimate objects, to celebrities, to
the Internet at a whole) became our gimmick. No matter who (or what) we were writing to, we had a
single rule: Have fun.

However, there are other considerations that you need to, um, consider.

First, don’t co-blog with someone you can’t be 100% honest with. Awkward conversations will happen,
so find a PiB that you’re comfortable with even in your most awkward moments. You need to be able to
admit when you straight up don’t feel like blogging. You need to be able to say, “I’m swamped. Can you
blog?” Alternatively, you need to be able to tell your PiB when they’re not carrying their weight.

Second, don’t let your blog ruin a relationship. The Internet breeds drama and something that started
as a funny blog between friends can quickly devolve into passive-aggressive (and aggressive-aggressive)
insult hurling. Never take your blog so seriously that you’ll watch your site and your friendship fade.

Third, just because you’re co-blogging for fun doesn’t mean you shouldn’t set a schedule (my PiB and I
haven’t done that and it’s probably our biggest challenge as bloggers!).

Fourth, if you’re PiB is a friend, take it easy on the inside jokes. The last thing you want is to alienate
your audience by droning on and on about something that you really did need to be there for.

Fifth, and most importantly, HAVE FUN.

Lizzy B. (aka @d20blonde) is a geeky mama living in the Baltimore area. By day, she runs a
small marketing business (www.BaumanCreative.com), is The Great and Powerful Nerd at the newly conceived Illuminerdy, and blogs with her fellow Liz at LizSquared. Liz is such an awesome person-I put out an SOS tweet about how today I didn’t have a #spreadbloggylove poster and would anyone be able to give me a post in 2 days…..she responded and then wrote this awesome post! WOOHOO! Love the power of Twitter! Thanks a bunch Liz I owe you! (and if I had any idea of how to write a Haiku I might apply for your job ad on your Bauman Creative blog hehe)

I don’t co-blog, but that is wonderful advice and things I would never think of. Great article!
