Welcome to the World Sweet Pea!(image and detail heavy post. Do not read if you don’t like labor stories/details–I promise not to get in depth with you though!)
Our “Encouragement” Day went very well! I was worried that having pitocin would make the contractions super painful right away but it was actually the best labor I’ve had. We arrived and ‘checked in’ at 10:15am and the pitocin was started at 11am.
Started slow and in my back (I’ve had only back labor with my other two because their head’s were so large they pushed on my spine) then moved to just the front. I totally prefer the front contractions! Those aren’t so bad.
My OB came in around 1pm and broke my water and I was 3cm. About 20 minutes later I was 4cm and they offered the epidural since the anesthesiologist was already on the floor for another mom. I said sure even though I could still talk/breathe through the contractions (I was worried he would disappear forever and I’d never get the epidural haha). The epidural was in place around 2pm and I was still a 4cm. My friend Heather arrived and we were chatting about labor, delivery and what an epidural felt like (she is expecting her first little bundle in March!) when I said “oh boy I feel pressure” which was weird to me because there was no way it was ‘time’ yet. It had only been about 40 minutes.
Military Man went and got the nurse and she checked me. I was 9cm!
It was time!
This was actually the hardest pushing I’ve had to do (she was face up) but it took only about 20 minutes of pushing (Little Man was 20 minutes of pushing, Miss E was 2 pushes total) before she arrived!
Arrived: 3:43pm August 15, 2013
Weight: 8lbs. 0oz.
Length: 20 inches long
My wish for all my children:
Have a happy day,
