Since I spoke yesterday about using apps to organize you and one was using my timers.
I have a timer set for 8pm to:
Put The Kitchen To Bed
It sounds odd I know but it’s a key component of keeping the rest of the house tidier (not tidy. My house is almost never ‘tidy’ but tidier).
Have you ever heard that you should make your bed each morning only for the fact that the rest of the room will appear neater? And because with the bed made you are less likely to mess it up so the rest of the room get better taken care of? I feel the same can be said about the kitchen. As the kitchen goes, so goes the rest of the house.
We spend so. much. time. in a kitchen don’t we?
What if when you woke up in the morning the counters were clear, the floor swept, the coffee brewed and the sink empty? Wouldn’t your day start so much easier?
I don’t know about you but I hate waking up to last night’s dirty dishes and stepping on crushed cheerios. It just makes me grumpy. I didn’t think it used to but it does. My “new” counter that I painted (y’know the one I did the video of how to paint your counters to look like granite) is usually piled high with mail, random giveaway things and anything that my husband needs to put in the basement (tools, paint, etc). But my other counters–those I can wipe the crumbs off and give a quick spray of cleaner before bed.
A quick trip around the main walking areas with the broom affords me no crushed up cereal underfoot and if I just load the dirty dishes in the dishwasher (I don’t even have to run it right then!) I can wipe out the sink and go to bed knowing when I get up at least something is tidier. Like The Nester says “it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful”
Tidier. Not Tidy.
After doing it for a few days it only takes about 5-10minutes to “put the kitchen to bed” and I think it something everyone should do to help make the mornings better!
Do you put the kitchen to bed?
Have a happy day,
